Falcom plans to release more games on Switch including ‘retro’ games

Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo confirmed the company’s interest in releasing more games on Switch soon, including ‘retro’ games. Kondo is drawn to the Switch as his children often play it. The president plans to release more games following the Japanese release of The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails. Here’s what he had to say (Thanks, Ryokutya 2089 and Siliconera):

The Nintendo Switch is a console that is very familiar to me, as my children often play it. Additionally, there is a wide range of people from various age groups because of the convenience of it being a handheld console. Once we had released titles on the PSP, we had a wider variety of different age groups playing our games, and we expect releasing titles on the Nintendo Switch will have the same effect.

However, retro titles will likely be released digitally only through the Switch eShop in similar fashion to Hamster’s Arcade Archives. Kondo can’t divulge his plans just yet, but we can expect more Falcom games on Switch and news to come in the near future. Previously, Kondo stated his desire to bring The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki to Switch and PS5. The PS5 version releases on July 28th in Japan.

A various of Trails JRPGs are coming to Switch in the west through 2022 and 2023 including Trails from Zero. In addition, the company stated their plan to develop a in-house Switch game during a fiscal year briefing. Shortly after, Falcom confirmed that a new Ys game is in development to celebrate the 35th Anniversary.

Lastly, The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- releases this fall for PS4 and PS5.
