Capcom announced during the Capcom Showcase 2022 that the current-gen upgrades for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 are available to download now.
Capcom revealed during the Capcoom Showcase 2022 event that the current-gen upgrades for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard are available to download today, June 13, for free for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The previous console generation saw the release of a number of new Resident Evil titles, with Resident Evil Village being cross-gen, as it launched at the beginning of the latest console era.
It was revealed earlier in the year that three Resident Evil games would receive free upgrades. The people who own the PS4 or Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 can download a free upgraded version of the games on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Those who own the games on disc will need to own the relevant disc version of the new console. The upgrades for the three games will also be available to PC players. These upgrades are purely technical and will not be adding any new content to the games.
The news that the Resident Evil upgrades were launching leaked earlier this week, as the PS5 versions of the game were added to the PSN database, including their file sizes. This meant that fans weren’t surprised when Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 current-gen versions are available to download today for free. The Capcom Showcase 2022 announcement can be seen in the video below, via the Resident Evil YouTube channel.
The Resident Evil games on the previous generation of consoles were among the best-looking games on the systems, and the new consoles are going to make them look even better. The PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and upgraded PC versions of the game will feature ray-tracing, higher frame rates, and 3D enhanced audio. The PS5 version of the game will also have DualSense support, with Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers. These will work well with Resident Evil 3‘s DualSense features, which show the player character’s current health using the LEDs on the controller.
The Resident Evil remakes are fantastic new iterations of some classic Resident Evil games, while Resident Evil 7 helped launch a new era for the series, one which was continued with Resident Evil Village. These games are more than worthy of receiving a visual upgrade on modern platforms, as well as an overall performance boost to reduce loading times. These upgraded versions of classic Resident Evil games should also help tide fans over for the next year, while they wait for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is set to launch in 2023.
The current-gen upgrades for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 are available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
