10 Most Exciting Reveals From Netflix Geeked Week 2022

Netflix Geeked Week is a week-long digital event where Netflix shows off some exciting upcoming new genre releases. This year was no different, with Netflix finally showing trailers for long-awaited upcoming shows like The Sandman. While some projects, like the upcoming Skull Island anime, didn’t have a big showing, there were still plenty of exciting things.

Between a trailer for the new season of Dragon Prince and the first look at the new Jamie Foxx film, there’s so much to be excited about. Here’s just a taste of some of the things audiences should be looking forward to coming to Netflix.

The Sandman

After decades in development hell, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is finally coming to the small screen. Netflix revealed the first full-length trailer for the upcoming series which showcased what audiences could expect from the comic book adaptation as well as a release date of August 5th.

The trailer showcased a lot of new footage and showed Dreams escape, as well as some of the chaos audiences can expect to see from it. Many of the upcoming characters were shown as well as the reveal that Mark Hamil has joined the cast as Merv Pumpkinhead.


Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos

Since November of 2019, fans of Dragon Prince have been eagerly awaiting the return of the Netflix animated series. Fans already knew the show was renewed up to season 7, but Netflix Geeked Week finally revealed a trailer for the upcoming fourth season, as well as a subtitle: Mystery of Aaravos.

There’s no sign of the main characters of the series in the first look trailer but it’s exciting to know the show is on its way. The series will begin to unravel the larger mystery of who exactly is Midnight Star known as Aaravos. Supposedly he’s the figure shown in the first look trailer.


Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

The video game Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky beginning but that hasn’t stopped Netflix from ordering a series based on the video game. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer and first look clip were released during Netflix Geeked Week. The series will be an anime developed by Studio Trigger and set in the world of the game. The series looks to take inspiration from one of the best side quests of Cyberpunk 2077.

Like many things during the animation day of Geeked Week, not much plot was revealed but they did reveal that the series will be a story about a street punk who becomes a mercenary known as an Edgerunner. The 10-episode stand-alone series looks to have the same incredible design aesthetic as the game it’s based on and will be here in September.


Arcane: Bridging The Rifts

Unfortunately, Netflix Geeked Week did not take the time to reveal any footage from the upcoming season of Arcane. But they did reveal a new behind-the-scenes series is coming to YouTube called Arcane: Bridging the Rifts. The series will reveal the length it took to bring the series to life as well as look at how the animation was achieved.

Arcane is one of the best-animated shows on Netflix and it’s going to be a while before the next season, so it makes sense that Netflix would try to capitalize on the popularity with another project. They also added Arcane profile icons for fans.

The Sea Beast


Originally revealed in March, Netflix Geeked Week took the opportunity to release a second trailer for their upcoming animated monster film, The Sea Beast. One of the major reveals was that the series will play in theaters in June before coming to Netflix in July.


Besides that, the trailer revealed more of the plot of the upcoming animated film. A young girl stows away on a ship when she and the ship’s first mate get trapped on an island with all sorts of scary creatures. This is sure to be a must-watch.

Day Shift


Jamie Foxx in Day Shift

Fans of the John Wick franchise will no doubt be excited to learn that Jamie Foxx has teamed up with Chad Stahelski on an action film centered around a vampire hunter called Day Shift. Netflix released a featurette that revealed the movie and some of the action work that went into making it.

Since Stahelski is plenty busy with John Wick: Chapter 4Day shift will be directed by J.J. Perry. He was a stunt man who worked with Stahelski on many films, including John Wick. It will see Jamie Foxx as a father of an 8-year-old girl who hunts vampires to make ends meet.

One Piece

Netflix is sparing no expense when it comes to their upcoming adaptation of One Piece. They released a timelapse clip, introduced by Luffy himself, Iñaki Godoy, that revealed a massive set being built. Apparently, this is just one of many massive sets being built to really show how this show is staying true to its source.

Another thing revealed about the upcoming series was more casting. Netflix revealed that Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala have all been cast in the series.

Sweet Tooth

Last year’s breakout hit, Sweet Tooth, was renewed for a second season shortly after the first one aired. Netflix released a wrap video for the series narrated by James Brolin that announced the show had officially wrapped filming the second season.

Who knows what challenges await Gus in this next season, but it’s very exciting to know that it won’t be long now until Sweet Tooth is back on audiences’ screens. The featurette showcased many returning cast members celebrating and talking about how excited they are for people to finally see the show.

Troll

Roar Uthaug, director of the long-gestating video game adaptation Tomb Raider is coming to Netflix with his new film. Troll was revealed during Geeked Week as an upcoming Norwegian folk horror movie that will see a group of characters discovering a giant Troll.


Not much else is known about the series and the trailer had little in the way of Troll footage but it’s definitely one that should be on people’s radars.

Sonic Prime


Fans are eagerly awaiting Sonic’s next animated series. Netflix has been taking its time when it comes to promoting the series. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 got many people very excited but it looks like a full trailer is still a little while away. However, Netflix Geeked Week did take the opportunity to reveal some new footage and some new characters for Sonic Prime.

Sonic Prime will surely have plenty of Sonic characters, but now we know for sure that Big and Froggy will be joining the series when it premiers this year. The animation looks very smooth and the environments look right out of the game. Fans can’t surely wait for more to be revealed.
